7 Times WWE Chose The Wrong Royal Rumble Winner

1. Batista – 2014

Batista Royal Rumble 2014

Batista after winning the Royal Rumble in 2014

I cannot express how awful of an idea this was. First off, anyone who is a part-timer who is only to be in the WWE for a few months should not be winning major titles or matches like this (besides the rare exception). Plus, Mr. McMahon actually wanted Batista v. Randy Orton to Main-Event WrestleMania 30. That’s what he ACTUALLY wanted! I don’t know about you, but if that was the main-event, I wouldn’t have ordered the WWE Network and I doubt I’d be watching wrestling now. Plus the worst part of it is WWE backstage heard the boo’s and the negative chants at Batista, yet it took them a month-and-a-half to book Bryan in a qualifying match.

Let’s get right down to it, this isn’t 2005 anymore, and Orton and Batista are both past their prime, there is no way anyone with sense could think that that match could draw money. There’s no way. I am so glad WWE realised how idiotic it was to not incorporate someone who was an extraordinary talent and deserving of the title match, instead of two men who would fumble and sweat around the ring for 20 minutes as people starting racing out of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Without a doubt, Batista ranks #1 on the list of people who should not have won the Royal Rumble match.

ALTERNATIVE WINNER: Daniel Bryan
