7. Departure of the “Unstoppable Monster”
Rusev started this year on a high note as he was undefeated and the WWE United States Champion.
However he went on a downward spiral as the year proceeded. At Fastlane PPV, he faced his biggest challenge till date, John Cena. He managed to win that match by hitting a low blow behind the referee’s back and put him in the accolade, which resulted in Cena passing out.
But the upcoming months proved to be disastrous for Rusev. His undefeated streak (pins & submission) ended at WrestleMania 31 when he lost the US Title to John Cena. He then lost at Extreme Rules & Payback as well. He then got injured and lost the chance to compete in the IC Title Elimination Chamber match. He split with Lana on WWE TV and is now involved in a storyline with Summer Rae, Lana & Dolph Ziggler.
From being an “Unstoppable Superheavyweight Monster Heel”, he became just another man running behind a woman. Well done, WWE.
