On a recent episode of his weekly ‘The Kurt Angle Show’ podcast, our Olympic Hero stated that he felt like the original version of the popular TNA faction ‘The Main Event Mafia’ had the potential to become as big as WCW’s New World Order (nWo).

Here’s what Kurt Angle had to say about the group:

“We all knew. It actually worked out even better once we formulated it.

We were like ‘Holy crap, this thing is going to be huge’. I just don’t think that we gave it enough time.

I think if we let it mature for a while, it would be every bit as big as the nWo.”

The original 2008-2009 version of The Main Event Mafia included Kurt Angle, Sting, Kevin Nash, Scott Steiner, Booker T, Samoa Joe & Taz, alongside multiple valets (Sharmell, Traci Brooks & Jenna Morasca) and personal security (Big Rocco & Sally Boy).

In 2021, Kurt said the following about this faction:

“Well, that group was etched in stone. It wasn’t going to change, at least the first time we did it.

The second time we did it, I think a couple of the guys left the company and we had to fill in some spots, with Samoa Joe and someone else.

But the first one, the main event, that’s what it was all about. All of us were in the main event in our careers, and we became a mafia, the five of us. So that was never going to change, at least it wasn’t supposed to.

We stuck with that as long as we could and then it ended up breaking up due to contract reasons.”

The Main Event Mafia was brought back in 2013, consisting of Kurt, Sting, Samoa Joe, Magnus (Nick Aldis) and UFC Legend Rampage Jackson.
