5. Edge
One of the most popular wrestlers of the Ruthless Aggression Era and the PG Era, Edge retired in 2011 following injuries of his 19 year career in wrestling.
Edge battled in some of the most brutal ladder matches of all time, was a former 11-time world champion and 14 time tag team champion. He had suffered a broken neck years earlier, which resulted in vertebrae fusion surgery and had since gained numbness in his arms.
After taking tests in 2011, Edge made the prompt decision to retire, as continuing to wrestle could result in permanent paralysis where he mightn’t have ever walked again. Edge still managed to make appearances for WWE and has become successful in his own television and film ventures.
4. Trish Stratus
Someone who many see as the greatest diva of all time, Trish Stratus retired on top in her home town of Toronto in September of 2006. She had defeated Lita for her Seventh and final WWE Women’s Championship in her final match.
Trish retired after six years in the ring, claiming she did everything she wanted to do in the wrestling business, by achieving the status of best Women’s Champion ever.
She had retired somewhat suddenly with no signs of slowing down. She was a very captivating diva who revitalized the division as a powerful role model, which the WWF lacked when she debuted. Trish still contributes to WWE, hosting Tough Enough 2011 and has become a Hall of Famer.
