1. Bret Hart
Bret Hart, one of the greatest technical wrestlers of all time, even though he had already accomplished plenty in his 22 year career, still retired earlier than he should of.
The reason why he ranks first in this list, however, is because Bret Hart was incredibly consistent during these years. Having started training with his father and wrestling under his Stampede Wrestling promotion, Hart seemed to pick up wrestling right away and is one wrestler who just “gets it”.
Coming from possibly the most prestigious wrestling family of all time, Hart was destine for greatness, and being signed to WWF in the early 1980s meant so too, as he was immediately pushed in one of the greatest tag teams of all time, The Hart Foundation, along with Jim ‘The Anvil’ Neidhart. Bret climbed up the WWF ladder, becoming WWF Intercontinental Champion, then WWF Heavyweight champion by defeating Ric Flair in his home country of Canada. The Excellence of Execution, despite breaking his finger during the championship match, managed to become a five-time WWF Champion and one of the greatest ever.
His consistency of being able to remain over with the fans and to never show signs of slowing down with age in the ring or gaining ring rust was astonishing. His moral of never injuring an opponent is amazing and Bret lives as one of the greatest ever, still today.
With never being injured himself, Hart was concussed in a match against Goldberg at Starrcade 1999 for the World Heavyweight Championship, yet continued to wrestle, without understanding the magnitude of his injury. Once it was made aware the following month that his condition had worsened, he retired as WCW Champion, without missing a step along the way. Bret took his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame, along with #1 on this list.
