6. Triple H vs. The Rock – SummerSlam 1998
The ladder match is seen way too much these days. There are already two Pay-Per-Views which highlight several matches a year, and to include the matches we see at WrestleMania and occasionally on Raw makes the entire concept of the match watered-down and nowhere near as special.
However, in the year on 1998 there were only 2 ladder match in WWF, one of them taking at SummerSlam (the other took place on Raw Is War between Mankind and Big Bossman for the Hardcore title).
This was back in the days where the ladder match was the huge blow-off bout of a massive feud, and that was between HHH and The Rock for the Intercontinental Championship at Madison Square Garden. It was a terrific match pitting the leaders of the Nation of Domination and DX which launched both men to superstardom. The Rock won his first WWF World Heavyweight Championship some months later, and Triple H captured his within the year.
