Kevin Nash eliminated Scott Hall and Lex Luger to win the World War 3 battle royal and as a result will face Goldberg for the WCW Title at Starrcade.
Nash, who booked the battle royal himself and before the match gave instructions to the wrestlers on how they were to be eliminated, was the star of the battle royal. Less than three minutes into the match, Nash was standing alone in his ring while no one had been eliminated from the other two rings. He eliminated all but a few of the 19 men who started in the ring with him. He was then able to stand in his ring while the other two rings were virtually full.
Giant, who was suffering from the flu and clearly more listless than usual, leaned in the corner of his ring for much of the match. At 11:00 Rey Jr. was the 40th man eliminated. At that point, once the total number of wrestlers dropped to 20, everyone left pooled into the center ring for the final phase of the match.
Nash and Giant went at it briefly which popped the crowd. At 14:30 Hall came to Nash’s aid in attacking the Giant. The crowd again cheered. They worked together to try to eliminate Giant, but Norton stopped them. Luger eliminated Stevie. Mongo eliminated Norton. Nash eliminated Mongo. At 16:00 Bam Bam Bigelow came through the crowd and entered the ring. Everyone teamed up on him and knocked him to ringside. Security then contained him. Goldberg then ran to ringside and brawled with Bigelow until security separated them.
The final severn were Nash, Luger, and Konnan standing in one corner, Benoit and Malenko in another, Hall in another, and Giant in the other. After Konnan was eliminated, Nash got everyone else together to beat on Giant at once. They did so. He swatted them away at first, but then finally succumbed to the five-on-one attack. The crowd popped when Giant hit the floor.
When Luger and Hall eliminated Benoit and Malenko, that left Nash, Luger, and Hall. Nash and Luger looked at each other. They shook hands, but then decided to fight it out. A three-way fight took place for two minutes. When Luger tried to dump Hall, Nash kneed them from behind eliminating both of them for the win.
The announcers immediately began to talk about the magnitude of Starrcade’s main event, Nash challenging Goldberg for the belt.
