The History Of The nWo

Scott Steiner was not authorized to say the things he said about WCW, Steve Austin, and especially Ric Flair on Nitro this week. When he got backstage after the interview, Kevin Sullivan confronted him about improvising (the term WCW uses is “producing yourself”). J.J. Dillon told him not to wear the Superman shirt because it is trademarked by Marvel Comics. Steiner was told not to attend Thunder and was basically “suspended with pay” until further notice He is considered a loose cannon and there are members of management – especially Dillon – who are intimidated by him. They fear if they say the wrong thing to Steiner, he will snap. Steiner’s comments are reflective of resentment some wrestlers in WCW have for Ric Flair’s push. The interview was one of Steiner’s better interviews, but it didn’t fit any ongoing or planned storyline and it wasn’t clear whether fans were supposed to resent or sympathize with Steiner’s comments. It is one more example of Bill Busch having lost control of WCW.
