Since Goldberg will be unable to wrestle Bret Hart as scheduled in the Souled Out PPV main event in January, Sid has taken his place.
Scott Steiner was walking around backstage at Nitro without any signs of discomfort. He is telling friends that he will return to the ring in a month… Some are saying that Hall was willing to appear on Nitro, but as a form of punishment, was told to take the night off…
WCW has now drawn a clear line between the faction of Funk, Anderson, and WCW president Bill Busch and the faction of the Powers that Be and the NWO. The last few months WCW has struggled to gain momentum in any major revenue category (ratings, house show attendance, PPV buyrates) in part because of a weak heel presence. Now, at least, the Powers that Be and the NWO are the top heels. Funk and Anderson will lead the babyfaces’ side. It resembled the NWO vs. WCW feud that brought Nitro ratings to their peak a few years ago. Will a new generation of fans latch on to this once-hot storyline?
There are several factors working against it, not the least of which is the first time the angle was done it had strong momentum because Scott Hall and Kevin Nash had just jumped from the WWF and Hulk Hogan had turned heel for the first time. The new NWO doesn’t have either of those elements. Bret Hart has been a heel before. Jeff Jarrett has almost always been a heel. Both are now seen as WCW wrestlers, not outsiders.
