Saggs/Hall Shoot
WCW returns to their home market’s major arena, the Omni in Atlanta, on the Mar. 3 Nitro, their second show at the Omni over the past few years… Scott Hall missed the last two weeks of Nitro because on Jan. 4 in Chattanooga, Tenn. at a WCW house show he suffered injuries at the hands of Jerry Sags. During a three-way tag match with Faces of Fear, Nasty Boys, and Outsiders, from ringside the Nastys were throwing tables and chairs into the ring at the Outsiders. Hall tossed a chair back at the Nastys, hitting Sags in the head. Sags, who had a head or neck injury already, blew his temper and charged in the ring. Hall thought it was part of the worked match and left himself open for Sags, who hit him with a barrage of shoot uppercuts and punches, knocking out one tooth, loosening two teeth, driving a tooth through his cheek, and giving him a black eye. Some of the other wrestlers were going to jump in, but Meng apparently told everyone to stand back and let the two settle it on their own. It ended quickly anyway. Hall was too injured on Jan. 6 to appear at Nitro. After the incident, while Hall was being tended to backstage, Nash grabbed Sting’s baseball bat from the back and approached the Nastys in the showers. Words were exchanged, but no incident took place. Duggan, who was in the shower area, just walked away and avoided the confrontation. There had been simmering heat between Hall & Nash and the Nastys all year. When the Outsiders agreed to come in to WCW for big money contracts, the Nastys contract came due and WCW initially decided not to renew their contracts, in part to cover the high salaries of Hall & Nash. Add that to accusations by both teams that the other team hadn’t been doing their fair share of selling, it led to a heated situation. There apparently isn’t going to be any disciplinary action, although it has led to the Nastys being a hero in some circles in the locker room and put heat on them in other circles for being unprofessional. While the Nastys are friends with Hogan and some have speculated Sags would have never attacked Hall if he didn’t think Hogan would stand up for him to management, others say Hogan has been getting along well with Hall & Nash lately (there was heat between them a couple of months back) and hasn’t gotten behind Sags’s actions…
